Summary

This pod introduces students to Queer Linguistics, a specialist strand of sociolinguistics focused on gender and sexual identities (both in terms of how they are constructed through language and how they are represented in discourse). Students learn about sociological concepts underpinning Queer Linguistics, such as queer theory, hegemony and normativity, and gain knowledge and understanding of how these concepts can be explored critically through discourse analysis. The pod introduces a range of data types, methodologies, and discourse analytical approaches used within Queer Linguistics and teaches practical skills to enable students to execute an original, empirical, Queer Linguistics project of their own.
