Summary
When we carry out research, one of the most important (and often difficult) elements is communicating findings effectively. When this is done right, it enables people to fully appreciate the significance and implications of the work. There are endless ways to display the same data, so it is important to consider what will appropriately capture the data, while also being sufficiently clear to the audience. The goal of this pod is to provide students with an understanding of effective forms of visualisation that are suited to particular data types and research aims, and to equip students with the skills to generate these in a clear and reproducible way.
Target Students
Students registered on the School of English online masters scheme.
Assessment
- 100% Participation: Student participation.

- Critically evaluate the suitability of various plots and visual elements for different data types and research aims.
- Apply understanding of data visualisation to effectively communicate findings in original research.
- The ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills acquired to the appropriate disciplinary and professional standard.
- Assimilate and present subject-specific material in an appropriate format (assessed within the ‘Assessment Portfolio’ 1, 2 or 3).
