Summary
In this pod students will be introduced to the study of field-names in England, and to their contribution to disciplines such as agricultural history, archaeology, environmental geography, and historical linguistics. We will think especially about evidence for local and regional community and language, as well as the way the historical population perceived and described the world around them. Students will engage with recent work on the topic, and will be equipped to conduct their own field-name research.
