Summary
This pod is an introduction to the history of the English language. Students will learn about the origins and early development of the language, and about the historical context for major changes in the language. The pod will deal critically with the notion of “the English language” as an entity with its own history. It will also raise methodological questions about how to work with historical evidence, and students will be introduced to working with primary sources such as digitised manuscripts.
