Summary
Through this pod, students will learn about the history of given names in England, and investigate given names as a source of evidence for language, history, culture, and society through time. The pod draws together themes and connections in naming practices in England from the earliest records to the present day, and examines the influence of the variety of cultures and languages on naming in England, as well as the impact of English and Anglophone naming systems on other cultures in colonial and postcolonial contexts.

Educational Aims
This module comprises an optional component in the following pathways: Applied English, Early Medieval Studies, Language and Linguistics, Medieval Englishes, Name-Studies, and Norse and Viking Studies.
