Summary
This pod introduces students to the study of Cognitive Narratology. Combining theoretical issues in narratology with methodological approaches from other areas of linguistic study such as pragmatics, discourse analysis and stylistics, students will critically survey contemporary narratological practice following the cognitive turn. In exploring the relationship between narrative, language and cognition, they will investigate a range of approaches to the study of worldmaking, fictional minds, perspective, and intertextuality; engage with theories of cognitive reception; and examine such topics as emotion, ethics and empathy in relation to literary reading
