Summary
This pod offers a comprehensive introduction to Cognitive Poetics. Students will investigate the processes of creativity, interpretation, imagination, emotional involvement, aesthetic experience, and literary texture, applying current understanding of language and mind (as drawn from research in cognitive linguistics and cognitive psychology) to questions of literary reading. Across the pod, students will be introduced to key foundational concepts in cognition, beginning with embodiment, prototypicality and figure and ground, as well as examining and applying broader cognitive discourse models, from Text World Theory through to Cognitive Grammar.
