Summary
This pod introduces students to a range of skills and approaches in linguistics, working from the smallest components of language to the largest. We will work with practical examples of phonetics and phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics and pragmatics, enabling students to apply relevant skills to whichever areas of linguistics they wish to explore. In completing the pod, students will be equipped to apply linguistic theories and analytical frameworks and systematically describe language in terms of its form, meaning, and use. The tasks in this pod will allow the development of skills in critical analysis, which can then be applied to disciplines such as applied linguistics, psycholinguistics, historical linguistics, sociolinguistics and literary linguistics in future study and research.
