Summary
This project-based dissertation will consist of School identified projects involving placements or periods of observation and activity with outside partners and within the University. Partners include Lakeside Arts Centre, Nottingham Playhouse, and Manuscripts and Special Collections. The dissertation will be a specialist study and academic evaluation of the placement experience and/or its findings. All topics and the required programme of work are to be identified and approved by the convenor in agreement with the project partner.
Target Students
Only available for all final-year students on SH and JH English programmes. Not available to exchange students or 2+2 students.There is a limited number of places on this module, and students will only be admitted following application and interview.
Classes
- One 1-hour tutorial each week for 4 weeks
An agreed programme of applied work during Autumn and Spring semesters, plus equivalent of 4 supervisory meetings across the year: initial meetings to refine topic, research strategies & programme, meetings to which you bring chapter plan(s) & evaluations; final meeting to discuss draft chapter(s). Further training on ethics, professional practice, work organisation and presentation of findings will be given.
Assessment
- 100% Coursework 1: 5000 - 7000-word dissertation or equivalent length project to be agreed with the module convenor. Failure to comply with ethics requirements will result in a maximum possible mark of 40% for the module.

This module aims to provide students with the opportunity to:research in depth a specific topic with a significant applied aspect to the research, under the direction of a member of staffwork and collaborate with partners outside the School context (e.g. theatres)present a sustained analysis of their work, thus developing their capacity for independent study.Learning Outcomes
