Summary

A specialist study of an individual topic in depth. Initial topic or project to be chosen from a range of supervisor research areas, and developed in consultation with the allocated supervisor.

If, as part of your studies, you would like to request a library loan for an item held in a library elsewhere, you should be aware that a small charge of £1.00 will be levied by the Library. However, if you are undertaking a final year dissertation in English, you may approach your dissertation supervisor to request an Inter-Library Loan voucher. Such requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Target Students

Only available for all final-year students on Single and Joint Honours English programmes excluding Q3W8 English with Creative Writing, including 2+2 programmes. Not available for students on Q3W8 English with Creative Writing.

Classes

2 weeks teaching weeks 2 and 8 of spring semester. Additional training sessions on preparing bibliographies; organising work; preparing final submissions, as well as a further training session on Library Skills will also be required.

Assessed by end of spring semester

Educational Aims

This module will provide students with the opportunity to · research in depth a topic of their choice, under the direction of a member of staff · present a sustained analysis of their work, thus developing their capacity for independent study.

Knowledge and understanding of:

an area of study covering at least one of the 7 categories of the English programme; fulfilment of this requirement will be one of the criteria used by the Director of Undergraduate Studies
