Summary
This module introduces you to the process of writing poetry and fiction by engaging in a variety of forms of reading and writing. Activities include creative and analytical responses to published writing, writing exercises in poetry and fiction, and revision of work written over the course of the module. The poetry content includes imagery, line and metre, and poetic form; the fiction content includes character, narrative, and point of view. The module also includes material on the contexts of writing, including: publication and the nature of creativity.
Target Students
Only available to First Year Single Honours English students.
Classes
- One 1-hour seminar each week for 22 weeks
- One 1-hour lecture each week for 22 weeks
Assessment
- 50% Coursework 1: Portfolio of poems (equivalent to 1500 words prose)
- 50% Coursework 2: Portfolio of prose fiction (1500 words)
Assessed in both autumn & spring semest
