Summary
In this module a student will be assigned to an individual supervisor who will be a staff member in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. The student will carry out a practical or theoretical project chosen from the current interests of the staff member concerned. The student will be expected to conduct a literature survey, undertake practical or theoretical work and write a dissertation on this work.
Reassessment, if required, will require resubmission of the thesis.

- 80% Thesis: 80 pages
- 20% Project Defence: 20 minutes

Educational Aims
The module aims to give experience of completing a major investigation within the topic area of their MSc course, including planning the work to meet a final deadline and reporting on the work both in a structured written report and by an informal oral presentation.Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module, students should be able to:
LO1 Plan future project activities for substantial time ahead.
LO2 Undertake a background literature review and use this to set their own work into a wider context of research and development.
LO3 Achieve particular long term objectives set at the start of the project.
LO4 Apply knowledge from their MSc study in carrying out analysis, design, modelling and/or testing of an engineering component or system.
LO5 Communicate their findings and developments through a written thesis and informal oral presentation.
