Summary

Development and deployment of software for a variety of platforms ranging from the web an mobile devices through to large scale parallel computers.

Reassessment of this module, if required, will be 100% by a centrally timetabled exam in the University's resit period exam.

Target Students

3rd and 4th year and MSc students in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Classes

Assessment

Educational Aims

To provide students with the necessary information, tuition and learning environment to develop programs for the web and mobile devices. To provide students with an understanding of the design patterns and data structures that are in use in modern software packages.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module, students should be able to:

LO1 Critically analyse large-scale software tasks in order to decompose into smaller manageable parts which can be implemented in terms of established and proven approaches.

LO2 Design and implement generic software in the context of code generality and describe different parallel programming paradigms and implement basic examples on multicore platforms.

LO3 Understand modern development of multi-platform graphical user interface centred software design and apply to practical problems.

LO4 Design and implement software for deployment on mobile and/or cloud based computing platforms.

LO5 Design and implement generic software in the context of code generality and recycling.

LO6 Describe different parallel programming paradigms and implement basic examples on multicore platforms.

LO7 Describe modern development of multi-platform graphical user interface centred software design.

LO8 Design software for deployment on mobile and/or cloud based computing platforms.

LO9 Determine the appropriate method for the solution of complex computational tasks.

This module contributes to the delivery of the following Engineering Council outcomes:
C1, M1, C2, C3, M3, C4, M4, C5, C6, M6, C9, M9, C13, M13, C14 and M14
