Target Students
Students interested in IT based careers.
Assessment
- 20% Coursework 1: Network Design coursework
- 40% Coursework 2: Systems coursework
- 40% Exam 1 (1-hour)
Assessed by end of spring semester
Educational Aims
To provide students with the skills required to commission a complete IT system; to provide information on network design & implementation. To introduce students to uses/techniques of IT infrastructure services (e.g., VoIP, Hybrid working, Virtualisation, Directory services) together with approaches to implementing services, security and the overall management and administration of such systems.Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module, students should be able to;
LO1: Demonstrate a knowledge of IT system design and implementation, understanding of requirements for such systems (access, security, resilience, risk).
LO2: Demonstrate an understanding of how large-scale networks are administered in terms of protocols (e.g., TCP/UDP), services (e.g., SMTP/DNS/DHCP) & overall management (e.g. Active Directory)
LO3: Select from a range of Enterprise solutions to support multi-tier applications for voice and data networks.
This module contributes to the delivery of the following Engineering Council outcomes: C1, M1, C3, M3, C4, C5, C9, M9, C10, M10, C13 and M13
