Summary
Contexts is about national and international contexts for education and considers ideas from the philosophy of education about the purposes of education in different national settings. This introductory module introduces a philosophical, comparative and observational focus which runs throughout the course. Units within the module will include: Curriculum, Understanding International Contexts and Understanding the Classroom.
This module consists of 200 hours of study. These will include activities based on engagement with materials on Moodle, journal articles, book chapters, educational policy documents, artefacts, audio files, digitalised video and website links. Students will be encouraged to inquire into and develop their own educational practices, beliefs and values. The face-to-face programme will involve small group, pair and individual work, seminar presentations, whole group interaction and individual tutorials.
