Summary
This module will explore the foundation of knowledge in the core research methodology and methods for person-centred experiential (PCE) psychotherapy and counselling. The module will examine the philosophical underpinnings of research and its applicability to psychotherapy and counselling. This will provide the basis for acquiring a critical perspective on research and the development of a dissertation proposal. The student will gain a deep understanding of the range of relevant quantitative and qualitative methods and how they can be applied in the psychotherapy and counselling setting. The student will gain the experience of doing a piece of research relevant to counselling and psychotherapy.

Available to MA Person-Centred Experiential Counselling and Psychotherapy students.

Delivered through seminars.
Assessment
- 30% Coursework 1: 4,000 words (Semester 1)
- 50% Coursework 2: 9,000 (Semester 2)
- Coursework 3: Submission of competency portfolio (Semester 2)
- Participation: 90% attendance required to achieve accreditation
- 20% Presentation: 20 minutes (Semester 2)

The aims of the module are:to facilitate the development of a learning community in which students support and challenge each other as a means to developing their knowledge of research as applicable to PCE theory and their own dissertation topic to develop an understanding of the epistemological foundations of PCE theoryto ensure participants have demonstrated sufficient competency in understanding Person Centred theory and practiceLearning Outcomes
