Summary
This module explores the challenges of designing good education research studies, particularly when researching one's context or practice. This includes consideration of the peculiar ethical and practical difficulties faced by insider researchers. Some introduction is made to common methodological frameworks, the assumptions and underpinning values in social science research. We consider the research process from research question to analysis.

Only available for EdD Professional Doctorate in Education students.

On completion of this module, participants will have:
Engaged with and assessed a range of methodological perspectives on education research.
Developed a critical appreciation of the interrelationship between theory, research and professional practices.
Explained the axiological ontological, epistemological positions adopted in selecting methods and taken a personal position with respect to these concepts.
Understood the ethical issues in educational research and specifically in the context of a proposed study.
Designed a coherent study within a research paradigm.
