Summary

Series of topics in economic policy. The first part looks at policies relating to growth, technology, investment and exporting/trade. The second part covers international economic policies and institutions: policy transfer, macroeconomic policy (IMF), development (World Bank), aid and capital flows.

Target Students

Available for PGT students on the MSc Economic Development and Policy Analysis degree. Also available for Economics PGR students.

Classes

This module is delivered through a combination of lectures and tutorials.

Assessed by end of autumn semester

Educational Aims

The aims of the module can be summarised as follows:To familiarise students with alternative perspectives on the role of the state in a modern industrialised economy.To encourage students to evaluate critically alternative perspectives on state activity.To analyse specific problems arising in the analysis of public policy, to introduce the role of international actors in economic policy.
