Summary
The module focuses on the 'fundamental' trade model, a simple, flexible and elegant setup featuring imperfect competition, trade frictions and economies of scale on the supply side, and preference for variety on the demand side. The setup will be used to analyse how trade opening may affect productivity, income and welfare, the organization of firms, the spatial distribution of economic activity, bilateral trade and international specialization.
ECON2028 Microeconomic Theory and ECON2030 International Trade are the requisite for this module.
Please note: This module is assessed at the end of Spring semester. First sit/ Re-sit exams are scheduled normally in the summer and can take the same form as the missing/ failed component of the assessment (exam, essay etc.) or other form, as decided by the School.

The main aim of the module is to provide students with a fascinating and powerful analytic tool to investigate a number of difficult and relevant issues on the welfare effects of globalisation.Learning Outcomes
On completion of the module students will be familiar with the fundamental trade model and its main applications. They will also be able to follow some of the latest research in international trade.
