Summary

This module will introduce students to economic policy analysis.

The first part of the module will cover the main features and distortions of research and innovation (R&I) patents law and R&I policies in practice the modelling of R&I and R&I policies and the associated measurement issues.

The second part covers post-crisis monetary policy controlling money markets with excess reserves spillovers of QE effects of QE on asset and credit markets low real equilibrium interest rates uncertainty in monetary policy.

Target Students

Available for final year Undergraduate students on Economics degree programmes (including final year Undergraduate students on the BA Jt Hons Politics and Economics and BSc Jt Hons Mathematics and Economics degrees). Not available for Exchange students.

Classes

This module is delivered through a combination of lectures and tutorials.

Assessed by end of autumn semester

Educational Aims

To introduce students to selected applied topics in public policy.To apply theoretical and empirical tools to policy analysis.Be able to use economic theory and data analysis to make policy recommendations.The module aims to enable the participants to develop skill in reflection of understanding of material through tutorial questions.

On completing this module students should be able to:
