Summary
This short module is designed to help bridge the skills gap between A-level chemistry and first year undergraduate chemistry to help ensure students begin their studies at Nottingham effectively. It will refresh key skills and ideas from A-level, build up confidence in key year one assessed tasks such as laboratory work, model good practice using assessment criteria and highlight support mechanisms such as use of Moodle, resources for independent learning and peer assessment. The module will also help students to develop study groups by encouraging group work throughout the tasks. Individual feedback is provided through discussions during the sessions.
Target Students
Only available for BSc/MSci Chemistry OR Medicinal and Biological Chemistry students.Level 2: U6UCHMCS and 2+2 programme Students. Level 1 Apprenticeship students.

Assessment
- 100% Practical: Compulsory attendance at practical sessions.

Students will be able to:
- Access course material via Moodle.
- Compare multiple information sources and evaluate the positive and negative features of each.
- Work effectively and develop confidence as part of a small team.
- Give verbal and written reports within a small team.
- Appreciate the importance of keeping good laboratory notes.
- Understand the key features of an experimental report.
- Understand the difference between group work and plagiarism.
- Evaluate their performance within the tasks and action plan for further development.
