Summary
This module is the third in a sequence of four Presessional English for Academic Purposes modules, designed to prepare international students for study in a UK Higher Education context. It develops studentsÂ’ understanding of the academic discourse and literacy requirements of study in a UK HE institution. The development of reading, writing, listening and speaking competencies are integrated in a sequence of research-based tasks, which include a focus on academic texts, taking students from an intermediate to an upper-intermediate level of language.
Target Students
Students needing academic language and literacy preparation in order to study at UoN or another HE institution.
Classes
- One 2-hour un assigned each week for 10 weeks
Unassigned. Up to 20 hours of scheduled class engagement in main teaching weeks.
Assessment
- 50% Coursework: Written assignment of 2000- 2500 words
- 50% Oral: Up to 20 minutes per student

Educational Aims
This module aims to develop students’ academic discourse and literacy in preparation for progression to Presessional English for Academic Purposes Level 4 and eventual progression to academic study. Students will improve their ability to work autonomously and critically as well as their ability to control the English needed for academic study.Learning Outcomes
