Summary

This module provides participants with a theoretical and applied overview of strategic management in today's operational environment. It introduces and analyses the key concepts, frameworks and techniques of strategic management, which allow them to diagnose complex situations related to real-world business development.

Target Students

Available to Part I or Part II Business School Undergraduate students. This module cannot be taken with BUSI3186. Also available to UG Exchange students.

Classes

Asynchronous recorded lectures on Moodle: 10 x 0.8 hour = 8 hours.

Assessed by end of autumn semester

Educational Aims

To introduce and discuss the key concepts, theories and frameworks integral to the strategic management of organisations and to apply them to real-world situations.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge and Understanding 
This module develops a knowledge and understanding of: 
- The development of appropriate policies and strategies within a changing environment to meet stakeholder interests 
- The frameworks and tools commonly used to analyse market dynamics and the firm's external and internal drivers of success.

 

Intellectual skills 
This module develops: 
- Conceptual and critical thinking, analysis, synthesis and evaluation.

Professional practical skills 
This module develops: 
- Commercial acumen based on an awareness of the key drivers for business success, causes of failure and the importance of providing customer satisfaction and building customer loyalty.

- Articulating and effectively explaining information.
