Summary
This module will introduce students to the basic ideas of organisational behaviour. The content will encourage them to develop an understanding of managing and developing people within business organisations. The module will draw its primary material from the major theorists and theories of both organisational psychology and organisational behaviour. The module will also develop links with other aspects of the business school curriculum such as general management and international business.
Target Students
Available to Qualifying Year Business School as a core module, Applied Psychology and Mathematical Sciences, Politics,History and International Relations (PHIR) and Economics students (NSE).CANNOT be taken if already taken N11603 People and Organisations.
Classes
- One 1-hour tutorial each week for 2 weeks
- One 2-hour lecture each week for 10 weeks

- 100% Coursework 1: Individual Case Study Coursework

Educational Aims
To introduce students to the basic ideas and concepts of organisational behaviour.Learning Outcomes
Knowledge and understanding.
This module develops a knowledge and understanding of:
- The dynamic and changing nature of business and the consideration of the future of organisations within the global business environment, including the management of risk.
- Leadership, management and development of people including the implications of the legal context.
- Leadership, management and development of organisations including the implications of the legal context.
- The need for individuals and organisations to manage responsibly and sustainably and behave ethically in relation to social, cultural, economic and environmental issues.
- The design, development of organisations, including cross-cultural issues, change, diversity and values.
Intellectual skills
This module develops:
- The ability to analyse facts and circumstances to determine the cause of a problem and identifying and selecting appropriate solutions.
- The ability to analyse and evaluate a range of business data, sources of information and appropriate methodologies, which includes the need for strong digital literacy, and to use that research for evidence-based decision-making.
- Conceptual and critical thinking, analysis, synthesis and evaluation.
Professional practical skills
This module develops:
- Self-analysis and awareness/sensitivity to diversity in terms of people and cultures. This includes a continuing appetitie for development.
- People management, to include communications, team building, leadership and motivating others.
