Educational Aims
To understand the current trends in the commercial development of products related to microbial biotechnology by visiting biotech industries and relevant research organisations.Learning Outcomes
- Gain first-hand knowledge of how we can make different products of commercial significance by using microbes.
- Knowledge and understanding of the fundamental, practices that underpin commercial and research applications, as well as the ways in which the industry is utilising fundamental and applied research findings.
- Develop ideas, form opinions and make interpretations based upon the use of information from a wide variety of sources. Acquisition of these skills is initiated through seminars, tutorials, and industrial visits. The skills are developed further through student-centred learning exercises allied to coursework requirements.
- Synthesise related information from industrial visits by working in teams.
