Summary
This module runs alongside the Professional Studies module and aims to locate and test knowledge and understanding to practical scenarios and practice context. Structured around the Professional Criteria set out by the ARB (Architect’s Registration Board) in their Prescription of qualifications: ARB Criteria at Part 3, the module forms part of the overall professional studies programme which is validated by the Architect’s Registration Board (ARB) and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) to meet and provide exemption from the entry requirements to the UK Register of Architects.

Classes
- One 3-hour workshop
- One 30-minute tutorial
- One 1-hour lecture each week for 12 weeks
The teaching and learning in this module will involve attendance at two in-person recall sessions and on line lecture / workshop sessions. Activities will generally take place in blocks of 4-5 weeks, followed by a gap of 4-6 weeks to allow progression of group assignment and self-led preparation for the Office-Based Assignment which is supported by practice-based experience.

Educational Aims
Based around the professional criteria outlined below, content covers professional practice and competency as set out by the ARB and RIBA. Using 'factional' and/or practice-based scenarios, the module aims to apply knowledge and understanding of the programme's taught components in a real-llfe context. The learning outcomes for this module are mapped onto the Architects Registration Board Part 3 Prescription of Qualifications criteria. These criteria can be found on the ARB website (https://arb.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/ARB_Criteria_pt3.pdf), a summary of which is outlined below.
[PC1] Professionalism – demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the nature of professionalism with respect to ethics, integrity, impartiality, and reliability within the framework of institutional membership, codes of conduct and regulation.
[PC2] Clients and services – demonstrate understanding of the range of services offered by architects and delivering those services in a manner prioritising the interests of the client and other stakeholders. This will be supported by knowledge of the briefing process, forms and terms of appointment, the means of professional remuneration, relevant legislation, and the execution of appropriate programmed and coordinated project tasks.
[PC3] Legal framework and process - demonstrate understanding of the legal context within which an Architect must operate, and the processes undertaken to ensure compliance with legal requirements or standards (i.e. planning, Building Regulations, CDM, heritage legislation, accessibility, etc.)
[PC4] Practice and management – demonstrate understanding of the business priorities, required management processes and risks of running an architectural practice, and the relationship between the practice of architecture and the UK construction industry.
[PC5] Building procurement – demonstrate understanding of UK construction and contract law, construction procurement processes and the roles of built environment professionals.
