Summary
This module is focussed on the student’s continuation of their Part 1 work experience in architectural practice. This formative period of collaboration between education and practice is an important period for acquiring professional attitudes, working in a live studio setting, and developing the ability to make decisions based on knowledge and applied skills. It also offers a unique opportunity to gain a broader understanding of key aspects of professional practice operation.
This module focuses on reflective evaluation of these years in practice, including both the professional and design experience of the student, accompanied by studies focussed on of the impact of the research on the host practice and investigation of aspects of practice operation. The reflective evaluation of practice will be framed by a series of focussed workshops exploring key themes such as procurement, practice management, team working, practice resourcing, and marketing, to prompt the students to explore, discuss, and reflect on the practice culture they have experienced.
At the end of the period in practice students will submit a reflective statement assessing key aspects of their practice experience, followed by two focus studies exploring specific elements of the business operation and the position of research and development within it.
