Summary

The module has three core components:
1. The UK BIM Framework: students explore the standards and guidance contained within the UK BIM Framework and develop their understanding of the processes and resources required to implement information management in the context of a construction project.
2. Common data environments: technological solutions are considered and configuration requirements developed.
3. Geometrical modelling: students develop their capability to create, assess and report on, co-ordinated geometrical models of building services installations.

Target Students

MEng Architectural Environment Engineering students; U7UAEENG (Year 3); U7UAEENGY (Year 3); U7UAEENGY1 (Year 4); (K241, K24A, K24D) and BA Arch Studies U6UARCST (K902).

Classes

Assessment

Assessed in both autumn & spring semest

Educational Aims

This module aims to equip students with the knowledge and understanding needed to enable them to set out a project information management methodology, to configure a CDE solution and to create and co-ordinate geometrical models for the heating and ventilation aspects of building services installations.

Learning Outcomes

This module supports the following Engineering Council learning outcomes - supporting students to:

M3. Select and apply computational and analytical techniques to model broadly-defined problems, recognising the limitations of the techniques employed

M10. Adopt a holistic and proportionate approach to the mitigation of security risks

M16. Function effectively as an individual and as a member or leader of a team. Evaluate effectiveness of own and team performance

M17. Communicate effectively on complex engineering matters with technical and non-technical audiences, evaluating the effectiveness of the methods used
